An individual who contaminated treats with sleeping medication and gave them to children at a summer program in the region has admitted sexual offences against two boys who were nine and ten years old.
Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight youngsters and a grown-up fell ill at the facility in the summer month.
The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, pleaded guilty to a multiple criminal counts when he was present at the judicial center on the end of the week.
Yet, he denied one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was against a nine-year-old boy.
The accused was held in detention before a subsequent court date on late November.
'Treat game'
Mary Prior KC, handling the case, detailed Ruben's offending to the legal proceedings.
She stated his those affected were disadvantaged youngsters who were attending a youth camp which he managed.
The man engaged in a "treat game" with the children, Mrs Prior explained, in which he would access the boys' rooms when they were preparing to sleep and request they to consume candy "as quickly as they can".
She stated to the judge Ruben had played this game with the young males "for many years", and minors had previously fallen ill the following morning.
She stated Ruben had been able to explain this over a long period as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepchild had suspicions in July 2025.
Mrs Prior KC added: "Recently" his stepson had suspicions about the situation, for good reason.
"They resolved" to investigate in the man's possessions."
Mrs Prior KC explained objects including baby oil, Vaseline and syringes were found, and his family member notified the police about his worries.
She explained the man proceeded to conduct the "candy game" with six boys that night - July 26th - and they were everyone unwell the following morning.
"Authorities" had not gone out by that stage," she added.
The police watchdog, the police conduct office, had stated that it was reviewing Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.
The legal representative explained the children were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so Ruben's stepson contacted the authorities again.
She said the defendant then engaged in the "treat game" in a space of five minors.
